Life in Photos - Thanksgiving in Virginia

My husband and I spent our Thanksgiving vacationing at the home of my father-in-law in Meadows of Dan, Virginia.  Days passed in a blur of laughter, long talks and exploration; after successfully cooking my first Thanksgiving meal, the remainder of our holiday found us in the stacks of local used book shops, scouring antique markets, refueling at neighborhood coffee houses...and, of course, gorging ourselves on treats at a nearby candy factory.

The thrift shops contained countless finds; I scored a vintage pearl brooch I will turn into a pendant for $16.00, and a burnished gold ornament I couldn't resist, as my cherished grams collects elephants.  Other noteworthy gems?  A cashmere winter coat with a pearl button clasp for $40.00, and gold + black sequined heels for $9.00.

With our travels now behind us, we look back on our lovely stay with our hearts content and our spirits expectant to return to the merriment that Christmas in Virginia will surely bring.

Covets - Crossbody Bags

Since moving into the city a few years ago, commuting daily to my office on Long Island has proved confusing at times - what items must I bring to occupy me on my 3-4 hour daily travels? Do I have enough room for paperwork or packages sent to my office, in addition to necessities?

My number one solution adventuring to and from my beloved city is a crossbody bag. These amazing purses are incredibly functional, holding my Kindle, my smart phone, my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Sweetheart Valentine, and cold weather accessories - all with room left over for more goodies. And the best part? They keep my hands blessedly free to hold on dearly during wild subway rides!

A Night at the Guggenheim

I went to the Guggenheim with the husband one cool autumn night not too long ago to see the "Picasso Black and White" exhibit.

The Guggenheim is my favorite museum in the city for its completely unique layout. Viewing an exhibit is always an adventure in space as well as art. The museums paths take you up around the perimeter of the building in an upward spiralling trek. This exhibit also took us forward in time as we ascended, spanning a period from 1904 to 1971. We ended the night in one of my favorite ways: with a burger and beer shared in a cozy pub, a train ride home spent reading side by side, and a mint sundae.

Oh So Thankful!

Pie is thankful for puppies.  Specifically, her puppy, Betty.  No, nevermind, all puppies.

Fortune is thankful for photography. She loves taking photos and looking through old albums. Photos make old memories fresh with new life.

Pie + Fortune are thankful for macarons.

Fortune is thankful for travel and vacations. For far off places and magical lands full of adventure.

Pie is thankful for Bon Iver's self-titled album.  Not because she loves his work (which, in fact, she does).  But because she gets so engrossed in the lush instrumentation that she never, ever falls asleep on the A train during long, late journeys home alone.

Pie + Fortune are thankful for the printed word.  Pie reads at least three books a week.  On a bad week, that is.  Her favorite book is The Magus by John Fowles.  Fortune can't choose just one. She's thankful for Austen, Murakami and Atwood. And (somewhat guiltily) for Jordan/Sanderson as well.

Pie is thankful for...did she mention puppies?  Yes?  Ok, then, Pie is thankful for puppies lounging around on tiny furniture.

But, above all, we are thankful for our cherished family + friends, each other, the ability to do what we love each and every day, and for you...so many thanks to you for supporting our dream!

Have a truly Happy Thanksgiving!

Inspirations - Body Art

Body art fascinates me.  The outward display of a deeply personal, inner self - such an intriguing concept.

Just like fashion, how we adorn ourselves says so much about what we care about.  How we see the world.  Who we are.

I knew for ages that I wanted my first tattoo to be Anselm Kiefer's sculpture Book with Wings.

Wonderfully interpreted by East Side Ink in New York City, it has so many meanings - my lifelong passion for the written word, my love of art, and my continued awe over all of the little bits of magic in our world.

These, too, caputure my imagination.
