Many moons ago, Pie + Fortune used to love frequenting the Designer Market in SoHo. Based out of a converted church on Mulberry Street, we used to eagerly scour the stalls for unique accessories and unexpected gift ideas.
Over the years, the spirit of the market changed; instead of selling handmade wares, vendors began to peddle wholesale jewelry and imported clothing. Popularity declined, and the market sadly closed.
Much to our delight, on March 2nd, a new, revamped space was born. Christened The Real Designer Market, the flea is now run by designers with the philosophy of 'by designers 4 designers'. Open every Saturday from 11 AM to 7 PM, it features handcrafted treasures directly from the creators themselves.
I'm currently working with b5 line nyc (more on that in a later post!) and am at the market every Saturday. I absolutely love it so far; there's such a vital energy in the air. All of the designers have such passion for what they do, and it shows in their work. I've had the experience of making jewelry right at our table, sold on the spot. I've seen the designer I'm working for breaking down necklaces and bracelets, switching out charms and clasps, to make a one-of-a-kind piece for an eager customer.
Everyone is just so happy to be there; to be working and shopping, meeting new people and making new connections. To have a community that supports the arts and entrepreneurship is so important, and I'm so elated to be involved.
One gorgeous, spring Saturday I'd love for you to come down and visit. You'll meet some interesting folks, discover some truly extraordinary goods, and make some new friends.
And that cupcake, by the way? It's filled with alcohol. So what, exactly, are you waiting for?
See you there!
