On a recent winter's eve, Pie + Fortune took to the streets of Brooklyn and Upper Manhattan for a spontaneous lady adventure!
Haunting my old stomping grounds, our first stop found us at Beacon's Closet, my favorite neighborhood shop. Featuring a panoply of gently used designer goods (past scores include a Marc Jacobs trench coat for under $25 and a Hogan crossbody bag for under $20), we scoured the racks for their always-amazing savings.
While Fortune ended up walking away from a J. Crew navy + black lace silk shift dress, I couldn't resist an orange, short-sleeved, cable-knit Madewell sweater, a mere $15 with tags still intact. I can't sing the store's praises enough; whenever I need to fill out my wardrobe a bit, I'm always able to find exactly what I need at a price to sate my penny-pinching soul.
The next stop on our journey before dinner was...for dessert? Diverted by the promise of mouth-watering delicacies (and, of course, since we are ridiculous), we did just that, skipping over to a sorely missed neighborhood fixture, The Chocolate Room, for a decadent pre-dinner treat!
Completely content after each downing a Café Torino (a cup of dark chocolate with a shot of espresso) and splitting a three-layer blackout cake (note we couldn't even wait to snap a shot of the lush confection, able only to record the utter devastation of our meal - we take our food very seriously, we do), we headed onward to Buddha Bar, a popular spot in my new neighborhood in way-Uptown Manhattan.
90's hip-hop was the music of the night, and Fortune and I cheerfully sang along, enjoying a Sixpoint 3Beans Porter and a Heavy Seas Winter Storm ESB...eventually accompanied by some spicy chili garlic + cider bbq chicken wings... and maybe some garlic fries. Ok, lots and lots of garlic fries.
Happily strolling home through Fort Tryon Park, making up silly, new lyrics to the rap songs we had so enjoyed during our junior high school days, Fortune and I were filled with such euphoria - joy for the little things in life and how much pleasure they bring. Gleeful that we live in New York City, and, even better, that we live in the same building (oh, lady hangouts are just so easy nowadays!)! Thankful, as always, for our easy, sisterly, forever friendship. And, without a doubt, eagerly planning our next big night out on the town!
